Not attracted to iPhone 5 price tags? Well, rumor has it that Apple inc is about to unveil the new low cost iPhone later this year, and leaks arrive claiming the handset?s all-plastic body. The latest set of images from China shows the purported low-cost Apple smartphone?s yellow model alongside the aluminum-built 2012 flagship device.
And just like Android devices, the rumor mill is calling the handset with different code-names, one of which is Zenevo and the other one is?Zagato/Bertone. No word yet from pundits about the difference of the two variants, though the leaked yellow image reportedly comes with a dual-core processor, presumably the Apple A5 chipset, 1GB RAM, new Bluetooth 4.0 standard and support for the faster Long Term Evolution. In the US where Long Term Evolution is the most popular, it would be a safe bet that Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile will all take advantage of the handset (if true), and will offer it on the lowest upfront cost on-contract, or on the lowest monthly installment deposit for T-Mobile.
Leaked images from China also confirmed that Apple will still put the audio port below the phone and near the lightning dock port, the same position implemented on the Apple iPhone 5.
Bear in mind that these images reportedly came from Apple?s Chinese manufacturing partners, but as yet there?s no way to confirm their?authenticity.
Analysts believe that Apple will enter the ?mid-range? market this year with the low-cost iPhone or iPhone Mini (or iPhone Lite) as others call it. The cheaper iPhone Mini or iPhone Lite will reportedly take the $249 to $399 price tag points or 2 and a half to three points below the cheapest iPhone 5 with the price tag of $649. With a cheap iPhone, Apple can now compete with entry-level devices from its rivals like Nokia, Samsung Electronics, Huawei and other Android manufacturers.
Macotakara reported last month that the iPhone Mini (iPhone Lite) will be the cheapest iPhone with the latest hardware available in the market vs the iPhone 4 which retails around $399 unlocked and the iPhone 4S that is currently on the $429 to $499 price points. However, the low-cost iPhone will be more expensive than other ?cheap? phones from Android manufacturers based on the statement given by? Pegatron CEO T. H. Tung.
