SAN FRANCISCO, California (May 6, 2013) ? A stretch limousine burst into flames on the Bay bridge Saturday night, trapping and killing five of nine women who were inside during a girls night out. One of the women who died was a newly married bride. The Lincoln Town Car limo was crossing San Mateo-Hayward Bridge on the south end of the bay when one of the women complained about the smell of smoke seeping into the limo.
By the time the driver of the limo pulled over to check out the problem, the entire back of the limo was engulfed in flames. Five of the women died, but passer-bys were able to retrieve four women from the flames, although one of the three saved was in critical condition.
The five women who lost their life were simply trapped and unable to get out. The CHP said the four other women who escaped the fire were being treated at nearby hospitals for burns and smoke inhalation: Mary G. Guardiano, 42, of Alameda; Jasmine Desguia, 34, of San Jose; Nelia Arrellano, 36, of Oakland; and Amalia Loyola, 48, of San Leandro. The limo company is named Limo Stop and is licensed and insured, according to The California Public Utilities Commission.
?This is such an odd and terrible disaster. Why a total of five women were unable to simply open the door to the limo and just get out is mind boggling,? states West Seegmiller, founder and owner of The Seegmiller Law Firm.
